Getting an online degree in nursing isn’t as difficult as you might first suspect. Our recent technological boom has changed the way we do almost everything today, and graduating from nursing college is not exempt. In fact, what was once only available outside of the neighborhood, out of town or out of state is now accessible from inside the home.

And what’s especially interesting about this phenomenon is that much of the traditional college experience has been captured into the online experience.

What you’ll discover in this innovative learning environment are opportunities to gain key nursing skills, traditional nursing preparation, and professional development and workplace abilities. Individuals who’ve already obtained a degree in nursing will appreciate how the Internet facilitates required bachelor courses, master courses, and doctorate courses.

Online Nursing School is Virtually the Same as Traditional Institutions

Outside of a physical location, there’s little that differentiates the online nursing school experience from the offline nursing school experience. Both environments adhere to the same admissions process, the same standards of education and the same course requirements and course development, so there’s no difference between the nursing degree achieved online and the nursing degree achieved offline.

All nursing students participate in a core curriculum that focuses on nursing methodology. And both communication skills and nursing technology are taught as well.

Online Nursing School is Becoming More and More Mainstream

Don’t make the mistake of thinking online nursing education is too new a concept or that it won’t be affective, respected, or even legitimate. More and more educational groups recognize the value of online learning institutions and they work with them to ensure offered programs meet today’s nursing requirements.

Online Nursing School is Affordable As Well

If you’re concerned about costs, rest assured that financial assistance programs are available to the online nursing student just as they’re available to the offline nursing student. Grants, Federal and state loans, military aid or Montgomery G.I. Bill benefits, and scholarships can help pay all or a significant portion of studies. Additional assistance is available for Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Reserves, Air Force Reserves and National Guard members through DANTES tuition reimbursement. Click here for more information regarding appropriate financial aid channels.

After enrolling into nursing school and participating in a few clinical rounds, you might start to feel overwhelmed. That’s a normal reaction to a career as challenging as nursing. Here, we want to offer a few words of advice so you’ll stay in school and gain employment in one of the nation’s most rewarding careers.

Decompress from Nursing School to Family

Attending nursing school can be as stressful as working as a nurse. In fact, some of the activities in your nursing education require you to act as a nurse, and the more classes you take, the more activities you’ll have. Don’t make the mistake some beginning students make and project your stresses home to your family. Set aside some time to “decompress” and acknowledge the end of your school time and the beginning of family time. Some appropriate activities for decompression include meditating, listening to music, jogging, or writing in a journal. Anything that can switch your mind from student mode to family mode will work just fine.

Take Breaks from Your Nursing Eduction

Breaks are underrated in this country. We really don’t know why more people don’t exercise them. To remain motivated, you must take a break from your studies on the weekends and during regular school holidays. The benefits are plenty. Breaks give nursing students fresh perspectives and new reasons to return to their studies, for example. Another benefit behind the success of breaks is that they provide a sense of accomplishment. At the end of a long study session, specific lessons and skills are learned and gained. Breaks give the mind an opportunity to digest those lessons and skills.

Don’t Obsess About Nursing

Although you may be excited about becoming a nurse (and we certainly can’t criticize you for that!), you’ll do yourself a great disservice by making your entire life about nursing. No obsession, however helpful to others, is good for the mind or the body. The human brain craves variety and it enjoys a break from the routine. That’s why the body sleeps. And that’s why you must give your mind a chance to think about something else once in a while. Take up painting, exercising, or music. Take up anything that prevents your mind from obsessing with your nursing education.

Network with Other Nurses

Participate in a few of the student nursing associations we discuss. Remember that nursing is a team effort. When you find employment as a nurse in a hospital or clinic, you’ll work alongside and assist as many as 10 – 12 other nurses. You can’t nurse alone, so there’s no reason to assume you need to learn nursing alone either. Talk about some problems you might have and ask other students, teachers, and working nurses how they’ve solved similar dilemmas.

It’s impossible to predict how well you’ll do in nursing school, and specifying which problems you’re likely to experience are next to impossible. The important thing to know is there are helpful channels available. Take advantage of them!

Distance-learning is one of the most inexpensive methods of obtaining a quality nursing education. And through the application of so many new info-gadgets, it’s bound to become even more inexpensive. It’s additionally bound to become more effective, more convenient, and more immediate. This puts the nursing student in an advantageous position since traditional methods tend to decelerate the learning process. Let’s take a look at how you can profit from the benefits of online learning.

Participate In Pre-Enrollment Counseling

Pre-enrollment counseling is designed to prevent nursing students from dropping out. The process attempts to match student skills with courses that are appropriate and satisfying since statistics show nursing students can feel intimidated by remote relationships and the lack of a physical classroom experience.

Arrange a person-to-person or phone interview with your counselor so that you’ll fully understand course prerequisites, course fees, course descriptions, and residential requirements. Your counselor may want to review time management skills as well since the freedom of distance learning requires a diligent commitment to scheduling.

Access Online Materials and Nursing School Resources

One of the perks of distance-learning is instant access to nursing student orientation materials. Quite often in traditional settings, the most important information that students receive – that is, orientation information – gets lost among registration papers, book receipts, class assignments, and all the other paperwork collected over the course of just a few weeks.

Using the framework of an online institution however, nursing students can keep all pertinent information in one convenient location – remote from exposure to damage and opportunities for misplacement. So once you’ve become a registered nursing student, be sure to log in to your assigned URL and verify that all your orientation information is available.

You should see a list of courses, grades and transcripts, an assignment calendar, and space to upload or post completed work. You should also see a link or button that grants access to a discussion board. Use this board to talk with your advisor or nursing instructor.

To take full advantage of your online learning opportunity, you’ll additionally want to access the facility’s library. You’re a registered student of the institution so you have full rights and access to every nursing journal, periodical, and book available. Do not be shy about exploiting this tremendous resource.

Take Advantage of Study Centers

Although a Washington nursing student may take nursing courses in Missouri, California, or Florida, that doesn’t mean there aren’t opportunities to meet other nursing students face-to-face. Local study centers make personal interaction possible while providing both instruction and counseling. You may meet other nursing students in a single room of some institution, or you may meet other students in a corporate training building. Regardless of its location, a study center will contain appropriate study equipment and supplies, a library, and computers for downloading programs. You’ll also have access to nursing tutorials and self-help groups.

Remain Committed to Your Nursing Program

When nursing students encounter personal, financial, or health problems that seemingly interfere with studies, their first reaction may be withdrawal when withdrawal can be avoided. This is what makes participation in your a study center so important. Every study center provides access to counseling and learner support systems that can help. A counselor may be able to postpone assignment until a later date for example. Or she may be able to point to financial aid resources for those who’ve lost a job.

Our nation needs you so don’t give up. Use these resources to remain committed. In just a short while, you’ll graduate and become the licensed registered nurse you’ve always dreamed of becoming. All it takes is your commitment. We’re here to help!

More and more LPN nurses (Licensed Practical Nurses) seek out BSN (Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing) opportunities for a number of attractive reasons. The first and foremost reason is job opportunity. The current nation is suffering from a nursing shortage and statistics show BSN nurses have an employment advantage over CNAs (certified nursing assistants) and even LPN nurses.

They also have a salary advantage. BSN nurses earn a little over twice as much as CNAs, so if you’re thinking about making the switch, you couldn’t have made a better decision at a more critical time.

LPN to BSN Online Programs

Getting a BSN online has some rather unique advantages with the first and most obvious advantage being the opportunity to attend school from home. Other advantages include:

The opportunity to learn on your own schedule

Lowered administration costs passed onto students as significant savings

Availability of accelerated programs for those with qualifying work experience and college credits.

Modern interaction tools enabling students to communicate via chats, discussion groups, emails, streaming video, and video conferencing even from thousands of miles away.

LPN to BSN Online Degrees Accreditation

Reading our article on nursing programs and accreditation, you know how important it is to attend a school with proper credentials. Online, accreditation is just as important as it is offline. It also varies online like it varies offline. Every BSN program requires state accreditation online or off, but some of them unfortunately are not properly accredited . If you want to be successful, you must attend one of the properly accredited online nursing programs we point to from this website.

Unless you know what to look for, you may be duped, so be sure to read over our list of trustworthy accreditation agencies and learn why they must be regarded as authority resources. Our links point to online MSN programs accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission NLNAC (also known as NLN).

Enroll Today

Studies have proven a real relationship between online BSN nursing programs and its advantages. With proper accreditation, effective curriculums, and loosened restrictions, these programs are becoming a new generation standard. Enroll today and prepare yourself for an exciting career today.

In as little as three to four years from now, we’ll witness this shortage peak do one of two things: (1) wreak havoc across the health industry or (2) spur the biggest hiring boom in the history of the United States. Let’s hope for the latter. In fact, let’s do better than that. Let’s work toward the latter with an online RN to MSN program.

Nursing school rankings compare institutions using criteria described in the U.S. News & World Report and NIH Research Funding. As an individual interested in pursuing an online nursing degree, you must use nursing school rankings as a tool in paring down your choices. Schools with high rankings are generally higher quality schools, and although rankings differ from accreditation, they can be equally as important.

How Nursing School Rankings are Determined

Institutions and individual nursing programs (LPN, RN, BSN, MSN) are ranked based on survey responses from executives, recruiters, school administrators, and students. US News & World Report for example, rates MSN programs from NLNAC accredited schools based on a survey of criteria rated from 1 (with 1 being marginal) to 5 (with 5 being outstanding).

What is the criteria we’re referring to?

Criteria used to rate nursing schools includes an institution’s classroom size (teacher-to-student ratio), postgraduate employment rates, starting salaries, and student preparation. Rankings from the National Institutes of Health are completely different from the criteria above and are based on the amount of research grant money allocated only.

Grant money funds research projects and fellowships, which can admittedly and seemingly indicate bias. But the value behind the grant money demonstrates investment worthiness. In other words, the more grant money that a nursing school receives, the more creditable it appears… especially since investors aren’t in the habit of granting funds to research projects that they don’t support.

School Rankings and Their Issues

As with anything else we measure, value, sort, and/or label, people question the true value of rankings. And so it is with nursing school rankings. Some people for instance, complain that rankings are just numbers and they don’t accurately describe the human quality of a nursing school’s character.

Other people question the criteria used to generate rankings. Is a school ranked highly for its low teacher-student ratio appropriate to an individual who prefers a low teacher-student ratio? (And vice versa?) What about campus life, the amount of homework, and extra curricular activities? Rankings don’t address those issues, yet it’s those issues that can influence an individuals decision to attend a nursing school.

School Rankings and Your Own Criteria

Since the criteria above might not mesh with your own ideas of appropriate criteria, feel free to inquire further and match your own desired characteristics with what’s offered. You have the right to ask a nursing school about its ranking procedure, the criteria used to earn a ranking, and the ranking party. What you want to look out for is a potential conflict of interest since that may suggest a less than honest ranking.

A conflict of interest isn’t necessarily a hard case against honesty, but you should be aware of one in the event that (a) you’re torn between nursing schools and (b) ethics play a significant role in your decisions.

The NCLEX, or National Council Licensure Examination, tests the basic understanding of nursing practice and knowledge. In order to get a nursing license, students must pass this exam after completing a nursing program. Passing the exam is the only way an individual can transition from student to practicing professional.

Types of NCLEX and Their Requirements

There are two types of NCLEX. The NCLEX-RN is for students who want to work as a licensed registered nurse. The NCLEX-PN is for students who want to work as a licensed practical nurse. Both the NCLEX-PN and NCLEX-RN require specific academic achievement (typically satisfied in coursework), a registration fee, an official transcript, ID, and fingerprint scans.

The NCLEX – How it Works

The NCLEX-RN contains 265 questions. Of those 265 questions, 75 of them must be answered correctly. Once a student answers 75 questions correctly, that student has completed the testing even if there are questions remaining. 75 correctly answered questions are all it takes to indicate the necessary level of competency.

How to Pass the NCLEX

Passing the NCLEX is difficult when it’s approached as though it were a typical, traditional test. Most tests grade how well an individual can retain facts and it uses memorization as an exclusive meter of competency. The NCLEX doesn’t do this because it tests not only fact recollection, but also the understanding of nursing principles through various scenarios as well. All of its questions require a correct assessment of an issue and an appropriate response.

For more help with passing the NCLEX, be sure to read our article entitled, “Passing the NCLEX Test,” where you’ll find valuable study tips, suggested study materials, and more.

We know that we have a lot of issues to address within the current health care industry, but the foremost issue is its stability and the role that qualified nurses play in that stability. We are certainly motivated by how schools are adopting technology as an acceptable means to attract and generate qualified nurses. The rest is up to you.

If you’re already working as an CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant), you already know that you’re working at an entry level position and that you have a tremendous opportunity to move up in your existing nursing career. Becoming an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) is the perfect start to climbing the nursing career the ladder, especially since as an LPN, you can continue on to become a RN (Registered Nurse).

The following offers some important information you need to know as a CNA interested in becoming an LPN or LVN.

Benefits of Working as a LPN or LVN

As is, a CNA can work under the supervision of a doctor or registered nurse only. As an LPN or LVN, a nurse exercises greater independence and can prepare rooms and administer medication. They can also command a higher salary. CNAs typically earn only $27,000 while LPNs average $40,000 a year.

Qualifying for an LPN or LVN Program

To qualify for an LPN or LVN program, you’ll need to first find the requirements of your state. Requirements vary across the nation, so you’ll need to check your state’s board of nursing for specifics. What’s required in say, California, could significantly differ from what’s required in Missouri or Maine, although experience in a hospital stay and hours in a specific study such as maternity or pediatrics for example, are required across the board.

The LPN Program

LPN programs typically last two years. The exact length of your LPN program may vary since as previously mentioned, state requirements vary. You’ll need to complete a specified number of practical hours in a hospital or medical center as well as attend required classes. You’ll additionally need to pass the national NCLEX-PN as well.

In the long term, one of the more vital practices of nursing lies within a strong force of qualified CNAs. The question is: is this enough? If we pay any attention to the mounting news reports which predict a massive nursing shortage in the next few years, the answer is simply, no. An influential part of the solution to the shortage problem rests in an adequate number of qualified LPNs generated now.

Register for an online LPN program today. The investment that you make in yourself is an investment in our nation’s future.

A rapidly aging population and a veteran nursing force nearing retirement are two of the biggest contributors to our nation’s current nursing shortage. In as little as three to four years from now, we’ll witness this shortage peak do one of two things: (1) wreak havoc across the health industry or (2) spur the biggest hiring boom in the history of the United States. Let’s hope for the latter. In fact, let’s do better than that. Let’s work toward the latter with an online RN to BSN program.

RN to BSN Online Programs

Getting a BSN degree online has some rather unique advantages with the first and most obvious advantage being the opportunity to attend school from home. Other advantages include:

The opportunity to learn on your own schedule

Lowered administration costs passed onto students as significant savings

Availability of accelerated programs for those with qualifying work experience and college credits.

Modern tools enabling students to communicate via chats, discussion groups, emails, streaming video, and video conferencing even from thousands of miles away.

RN to BSN Online Degrees Accreditation

Reading our articles on nursing programs and accreditation, you know how important it is to attend a school with proper credentials. Online, accreditation is just as important as it is offline. It also varies online like it varies offline. Every BSN program requires state accreditation online or off, but some of them unfortunately are not properly accredited. If you want to be successful, you must attend one of the properly accredited online nursing programs we point to from this website.

Unless you know what to look for, you may be duped, so be sure to read over our list of trustworthy accreditation agencies and learn why they must be regarded as authority resources. Our links point to online BSN programs accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission NLNAC (also known as NLN).

Enroll Into an Online BSN Nursing Program Today

Studies have proven a real relationship between online BSN nursing programs and its advantages. With proper accreditation, effective curriculums, and loosened restrictions, these programs are becoming a new generation standard. Enroll today and prepare yourself for an exciting career today.

It is very important that you apply to accredited nursing colleges and universities in your quest of becoming a professional nurse. Nursing school accreditation indicates whether a nursing program conforms to specific quality standards set forth by the US Department of Education (or one of the other organizations that accredit nursing schools). And since a single nursing school can be accredited by one or more of these organizations, you may see a nursing program own multiple accreditations in your research.

The Roles of Nursing School Accreditation

Accreditation plays a couple of key roles in your nursing education. The first most pivotal role is the impression accreditation makes on potential employers. Most employers want to see accredited nursing programs on job applications. The second role is the impression accreditation makes on financial aid resources. Grant and scholarship committees want to see accredited nursing programs as well. For without it, both grant and scholarship resources may refuse financial aid.

Note that accreditation must come from a respected source. In an effort to appear legitimate, a nursing program may accredit itself through association with its own agency. But this type of nursing program isn’t recognized nor respected by financial aid agencies or employers. How can you tell which accreditation agencies are legitimate? Easy. See if it’s on the list of regional accreditation agencies below.

Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA)

Accreditation for Online Degrees

Read our article entitled, “Nursing School Accreditation” to learn the value of nursing school accreditation and how strongly it can influence your career. A university’s accreditation is so vital, it can and will affect your ability to get:

1. Federal loans and grants scholarships

2. Private loans and grants and scholarships

3. Transferred credits. (Attempting to transfer credits between a non-accredited college and one that is is extremely hard and you may lose many hard earned units by attending an unaccredited university!)

You’ll discover the choices you make could make or break your nursing career. Hopefully, you’ll make the right choice.
