With a BSN (Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing) in hand, you can quickly obtain the much coveted MSN (Master of Science in Nursing) in less time than if you worked toward an MSN from scratch. The BSN gave you all the essentials needed to complete graduate study, and an MSN program takes that into account – literally. Appropriate credits (about 40) earned from a BSN program are transferred to an MSN program so that you can focus on MSN qualifications: leadership roles and a focused study.
Focused study can center on (1) patient age, (2) work setting or provided care, (3) diseases or medical conditions, and (4) organs or organ systems. And each requires class attendance, clinical work, and research with more of less of any one practice depending on the focus. Community health, geriatrics, and management are also pursued, however some graduates use their MSN to continue education in pursuit of a doctorate instead.
