If there were contest for a state with the worst effect of a nursing shortage, Florida would win hands down. Not only is Florida nursing shortage on the rise, it’s slated to disable the quality of care that it currently provides its growing elderly population in just ten years. This is of course, a shortage destined to increase at an alarming rate if the state cannot adequately train and employ qualified nursing professionals.

A lack of sufficient training facilities and a diminishing number of nurse educators only escalate the problem. There’s that and the fact that nursing staff is reducing all across the state. In order for Florida to maintain a healthy populace, it’s going to need nurse educators and nurse professionals. For that reason alone, many institutions require their nurses to have at least a bachelor’s degree.

Employment Opportunities

As with any state, Florida RNs earn an income based on education, experience, expertise, and location. Other influences include the type of facility RNs work in and that facility’s health care requirements. Location is really important as well considering that metropolitan employed RNs can earn between $52,000 and $65,000 a year.
