A weakened economy has literally forced hundreds of retired nurses back into the workforce not only in Iowa, but all across the country as well. Interestingly, it hasn’t been enough to reduce the state’s current nursing shortage. Iowa suffers from a lack of sufficient professional nurses and nurse educators just like every other state suffers from.

When the current workforce retires once and for all, the state will face an even worse shortage — especially since as is, the state’s long-term health care requirements are projected to increase over the years. BSN prepared nurses, Nurse Educators, and Nurse Practitioners are all needed all over the state.
The good news is that Iowan RNS who attend school and acquire an education loan in the process can teach for 5 years at an accredited nursing program (or work 3 years with a health care provider) and not have to pay back a significant portion of that loan. The Iowa Student Loan Nursing Education Loan Forgiveness Program removes a large part of student loan obligation so you can focus on the most important thing: patients.
