Already, Louisiana’s nursing shortage is at its highest. This is an unfortunate reality as we observe the state’s demand for health care rise to an unreachable level. Over four thousand nursing jobs remain unfilled to date, and that number isn’t shrinking — especially in areas like New Orleans, the worst victim of Hurricane Katrina.
With an insufficient number of nurses, hospitals are forced to limit patient numbers. When hospitals limit patient numbers, the quality of health care plummets.

Can this current surge be stopped? Well yes in fact, it can. Nurse Midwives, Nurse Practitioners, and Registered Nurses are in great demand all across the state n both the state’s urban and rural areas.
Get a BSN and make yourself “hire-ready.” All across America, health care facilities are instituting what’s called a “BSN preferred” policy, meaning nurses who’ve earned a BSN significantly increase their chances of employment.
Number of Louisiana nursing jobs today: 37,534 RPNs
40,177 RPNs will be needed in Louisiana by 2015
