Massachusetts is probably the least likely state to experience a nursing shortage. The state after all is largely funded through health care provisions. In fact, more than 400,000 jobs are in health are alone. Yet it hasn’t escaped the flux of nursing shortages experienced all across the state. Despite its large hold on the health industry, Massachusetts surprisingly has one of the worst nursing shortages of all.

A failing economy and retired nurses returning to the workforce contribute to the state’s current condition. Ironically, the situation is destined to worsen when the economy improves.

Why?

It’s simple. Veteran nurses will retire for good the minute the economy shows a significant and permanent rebound. That’s going to leave a gaping hole between hospital and patient care. The state’s going to need qualified nursing professionals to fill the positions of an older, retired workforce. Fortunately, it’s a lot easier to work as a professional than ever before.

Previously, Massachusetts required nursing staff have a master’s degree in nursing at the very least. Now, the state waivers this requirement for BSN nurses who are expected graduate date in five years and who are will to become nurse educators. Ready? Then let’s go!
